I think the best kept skin beauty secret of the century is facial steaming. I have a Clarisonic Mia and use it daily, but its benefits don’t come close to facial steaming. Seriously. I swear by it!
It’s easy to do and suuuuper cheap – costs almost nothing. There are some crazily priced steamer systems on the market like this one by Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare. No need to spend over $100 steaming your face!
Deep clean skin/pores without harsh chemicals or abrasion.
Clear out any congestion in the nose.
Use as a form of aromatherapy with spiced water – it’s invigorating!
Get rid of body’s toxins by sweating.
– A pot for boiling
– Cloves (whole and/or crushed)*
– Black pepper (whole and/or crushed)*
*These are optional. Turmeric is great for the skin, and the cloves and black pepper are great for clearing out the nose, but you can use plain water or other ingredients.
What to do:
Fill the pot three-fourths full of water. Bring water to a boil.
Optional: Add 2-3 table spoons of turmeric, one teaspoon each of whole cloves or whole black pepper. Add however much crushed cloves or black pepper you like.
Lean over the pot so that the steam hits your face directly. Move your face around to figure out the best distance for you, which might change with time. Tilt your head in different directions to target your chin, forehead, cheeks/ears. Breathe in the steam to clear out your nose.
You can take short breaks of course, but I suggest breaks of only 5-10 seconds and not too many. You want to sweat! Like, dripping sweat. You must drip sweat for 5-10 minutes before stopping! The heat opens up your pours and the sweat kicks out all of the deeper dirt and grime. Wash your face, or even shower, otherwise your face will just reabsorb the sweat.
Your face will be a little red from the heat after doing this. Don’t worry about it! You will see an amazing change in your skin (small pores, glowing, clear and fresh feeling) after it cools off.
