Hair salons should offer wigs. To everyone.
Lucy did it. Gaga does it. We could all benefit from trying wigs. I think there is a huge profit to be made from incorporating wigs into the world of hair cuttery. It makes perfect sense. I don’t know about you, but I think it can be super scary to consider a drastic (or even not-so-drastic) change to the precious mop. Am I getting the right color, length, style? Will it work with my face shape?
What if you could try the new ‘do before committing to it?
A simple and potentially lucrative solution: salon wig consultations. Salons should be equipped with quality wigs that they can style in a number of ways. Thick or thin hair, light or dark hair, long or short hair – so on and so forth. A set of 10 or 12 wigs could probably act as a nice basic set. Additional wigs could be specially purchased with advanced notice depending on interest. The hair specialist for the salon wig consultation could study the customer’s hair and choose an appropriate wig, and customers could describe their desired style (long or short, bangs or none, curly or straight). The hair specialist could style the wig according to the customer’s wishes (within reason – certain treatments I imagine would warrant an extra fee or the purchase of said wig) and voila! If you like the style, you can ask for your hair to be cut. Salons could offer wig + cut deals, to incentivize customers to invest in a wig consultation. Customers could try more than one style with the wigs, before deciding which to go for. However, the more wigs styles, the higher the cost of the consultation. Presumably the specialist would advise you well, so that you don’t have to waste your money on seven styles.
Wigs aren’t only for those who want fuller heads of hair. If it were up to me, wigs would be in.
Peace, love, and WIG it up!
